Thanks to MY sister, I read this wonderful story about Mozart's sister! This is a very good book where the spotlight is taken off of Mozart and put on his sister Nannerl. Unfortunately, the spotlight I speak of did not highlight her musical genius, but instead shined down upon her amazing spirit. Even though Nannerl was equally brilliant, because she was a woman, during an era when women were expected to marry and raised families, her musical advancement was denied. Not only was she denied the opportunity to pursue her musical career, but she was also denied the chance to marry a man whom she truly loved. Here is a woman who sacrificed her own happiness for the sake of others; an incredible woman in her own right. I am thankful to Nancy Moser for telling her story and thankful to my sister for recommending the book to me.Tags : Mozart's Sister [Nancy Moser] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Nancy Moser has an uncanny ability to empathize with her characters, portraying their emotions so realistically that they become yours. To genuinely know and experience characters emotionally is a beautiful gift that Moser gives to her readers in all her books, and it's what makes them so very special. This one was especially so.
I began this book a bit unsure if it was really my type of reading. It turns out it was a wonderful book. I felt like I had been transported back in time. The story was amazingly interesting, the discriptions were so vivid, I could almost reach out and touch the fabrics of their clothes, smell the aroma of their foods, enjoy the warm of their hearth. I felt the cold, too, while the family traveled to other countries along bumpy roads in a horse-drawn coach, in search of Leopold, the father's dream. This book had me hooked with the very first page. Kudos! And thank you!
This fascinating novel opens a window to an obscure subject. I am not sure if I knew Mozart had a sister but this book brings her story to life. Her own talent was extraordinary but unrecognized. Makes me want to visit Salzburg too.
absolutely loved reading this, without skipping a word. Have suggested it to others. I not only kept interested, but also learned truth about Mozarts sister and family. It was based on the facts and want to read her others in that series. Cant think they would add up to my love for this one tho. Jan
While growing up, Nannerl had to live in the shadow of her talented brother. While she herself is talented, she is limited by being female. She loves her brother, yet throughout his life he makes selfish decisons that continually impact Nannerl's life. She is denied travel, fame, love and the attention of her father as he strives to lead Mozart to greatness.
The first half of the story is during Nannerl's adolescent years. Eventually the story line at the mid-point became a bit slow and repetitious. And then I reached the final third of the book...
It's been quite a few years since I have stayed up past my "bedtime" to eagerly find out the characters fate. It's also been a few years since I have had to find a box of tissues to dry my tears as I felt Nannerl's feelings.
If the middle hadn't been a bit slow, I definately would have given this 4 stars!
I really am glad that Nannerl' s story has been told. Nancy Moser did a great job of writing Nan Mozart's life story. It really explained a lot about her brother Wolfgang' s eccentric behavior. I also this liked how the book shows a more loving side to their father Leopold in his caring for Nan' s son. I highly recommended this book for all to read. Maybe one day a movie could be made about. "The Forgotten Mozart!)
This historical fiction book sits at number one on my "Favorites" list, and at age 72, that is saying something! As it happens, I am a harpist, but the fascination with the musical family dynamics and the humanity of true genius is what kept me thinking about the characters much of every day. I loved reading this book and feel that I will never forget it. Thank you, Nancy Moser! I hope to find out what the lower case "L" behind a name means. I am guessing that it is the German way to indicate affection.
